Tiradito is a classic from Ensenada and other places in Mexico. It's all about enjoying fresh, raw fish with a light and spicy Asian-inspired sauce. We are using our Serranos Toreados brine because it already has so much flavour that makes it the perfect condiment to build upon a dish like this. Highly recommend it with corn tortilla chips or on its own. Fresh, easy, and full of flavour dish.

Tiradito 

-250g sashimi grade tuna

-¼ onion, finely sliced

-1 jalapeno, finely sliced

-½ cucumber, finely sliced

-radishes to taste, finely sliced

-avocado to taste, finely sliced

-sesame seeds, to taste


Salsa

-4 tbsp soy sauce

-3 tbsp lemon juice

-1 tbsp rice vinegar

-1 tbsp sesame oil

-1 tsp ginger, grated

-1 tbsp Serranos Toreados brine

-salt to taste


1 In a small bowl, whisk together all the salsa ingredients and season to taste. 

2 Thinly slice the tuna onto even-sized slices. Arrange flat or slightly one on top of the other on a plate. 

3 Arrange the cucumber, radish, avocado, and jalapeno slices to your liking, making sure they will all get exposure to the salsa and that it is easy to take a bit of everything at a time.

4 Pour over the salsa with a spoon and let it pool to the side. Serve the rest of the salsa in a small bowl for extra dipping.

5 Top the tuna with the finely sliced onions and a few sesame seeds on top.


Notes

  • The tuna slices are to taste, if you like thicker slices it’s totally fine.
  • Any other fresh, high-quality fish works great for this recipe. Salmon is another popular choice.
  •  This recipe in general is up to taste! There is no need to marinate the tuna. It should be put together and served immediately. 
  • This is a perfect entree or a beautiful light lunch. 
  • Serving this with corn tortilla chips is the best way to go, layering tuna with avocado and cucumber slices or any toppings you like. You can easily make your own corn tortilla chips! Find out how here.
