Pork Steaks in La Costena Tomatillos Sauce

Pork Steaks in La Costena Tomatillos Sauce is the perfect dish for your next taco party or as a main dish together with some lovely Mexican tomato rice. Tomatillos are a staple of Mexican cuisine, in Mexico they are use for many recipes, including broths, sauces and spicy salsas. Unfortunately here in the UK is difficult to find fresh one, so La Costena whole tomatillos are a great option, not too sour and ready to make your sauce for this comforting dish.

INGREDIENTS

  • 1 tin of 790g La Costena whole tomatillos
  • 6 pork steaks
  • 2 fresh jalapenos chillies
  • ½ white onion
  • ½ cup fresh coriander
  • 1 tsp salt
  • 1 tsp sugar
  • 3 tbsp oil
  • ½ water

METHOD

Season the pork steaks and then heat the oil in a dutch-oven casserole dish. Fry them one by one on each side for 1 min to brown the meat. Then place them back on to the dish and add the water, onion and jalapenos. Cook for 30 minutes on low heat, making sure they do not run out of liquid.

Open La Costena tomatillos tin and drain them. Then place the tomatillos in a blender, remove the onion and jalapenos from the pork and add them to the tomatillos, add the coriander as well and the sugar and the leftover salt. Blend until smooth.

Add this sauce to the pork steaks and gently simmer the steaks with the sauce for 30 minutes. Enjoy them with rice and nice warm corn tortillas.
